the Dockyard might be disposed of to the Colonial Govern-
-ment for an installation at Gap Rock, provided the Senior
Naval Officer at Hongkong were given control of the
Station to be exercised at his discretion in the event of
emergency.

I understand that the matter has
been referred to the Admiralty and in the meantime I
should be glad if I could be informed as to whether Wire-
-less Telegraphy has hitherto been successfully used for
communicating between Lighthouses in isolated and exposed
positions and the shore and if the system is adopted for
this purpose here what would be the nature of the arrange-
-ments,
if any,
that would have to be made with the Marconi
Company. Failing the introduction of Wireless Telegraphy
for communication between Gap Rock and Hongkong it will be
necessary to provide the existing Cable with a new and
specially prepared shore end which would have to be ob-
-tained from England at a cost estimated at about £200.
