the Dockyard might be disposed of to the Colonial Govern-

-ment for an installation at Gap Rock, provided the Senior

Naval Officer at Hongkong were given control of the

Station to be exercised at his discretion in the event of

emergency.

6.

I understand that the matter has

been referred to the Admiralty and in the meantime I

should be glad if I could be informed as to whether Wire-

-less Telegraphy has hitherto been successfully used for

communicating between Lighthouses in isolated and exposed

positions and the shore and if the system is adopted for

this purpose here what would be the nature of the arrange-

-ments,

if any,

that would have to be made with the Marconi

Company. Failing the introduction of Wireless Telegraphy

for communication between Gap Rock and Hongkong it will be

necessary to provide the existing Cable with a new and

specially prepared shore end which would have to be ob-

-tained from England at a cost estimated at about £200.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

M H E the

Governor, &c..
